"I think it has gone a lot better than expected" - Ibrahima Konate on his debut season
Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate has spoken about his debut season at Anfield.
The Reds signed the Frenchman from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £36 million last summer.
The 2021-22 campaign is not quite over for Liverpool just yet, however, enough football has been played for Konate to give a verdict on his first 10 months at the club.
Konate has performed well for the Reds this season. He has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.98 across all competitions (28 appearances). Konate has also scored three goals.
With that being the case, the 23-year-old is pleased with how his first campaign at Anfield has panned out.
"I knew when I arrived here that expectations were very high at the club, a lot is asked of you, but what we're achieving now is unique, I don't know if anything similar has already been achieved in the history of the club," he told the club's official website, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.
"I think it has gone a lot better than expected. Now we have to keep working and aim even higher in order to be even more successful.
"Not specifically (getting used to) English football, but more to the club, to the way the team plays, to the coach's tactics and style of play. I wanted to adapt to those things during my first season; then, my personal objective was to win a trophy."
Anfield Watch Verdict
As we have pointed out, Konate has adapted to a new club/league very well. The centre-back has also won some silverware this season (League Cup and FA Cup).
Konate could potentially add the Champions League to his collection on Saturday night.
To conclude, the Frenchman's first season at Anfield has been a success. He should be very proud of himself.
