"I think Cristiano Ronaldo would join Liverpool" - Pundit on Man United star
Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo would join Liverpool if he was given the opportunity to do so.
The Portugal international is a Manchester United legend. Ronaldo has scored 142 goals and registered 62 assists in 329 appearances for the club's first-team.
The 37-year-old has also won several major trophies with Manchester United.
However, it has been reported that Ronaldo wants out of Old Trafford this summer. With that being the case, Agbonlahor believes the forward would be open to joining arch rivals Liverpool.
"To be honest, I think Cristiano Ronaldo would join Liverpool this summer if he could. They are big rivals of Man United but it’s about Ronaldo," he told talkSPORT, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
"He will go anywhere he can still play Champions League, get Champions League records and win titles. I don’t think Ronaldo has any loyalties to Manchester United or Real Madrid or Juventus.”
It is important to note that Liverpool have not genuinely been linked with a move for Ronaldo.
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Agbonlahor is coming from. The reality is, most footballers in the modern age lack loyalty.
Liverpool competed for the quadruple last season. Ronaldo is a winner. The Reds would meet his needs.
But, the forward is contracted until the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign. Manchester United would never sell one of their best players to Liverpool.
Also, Ronaldo is 37 years of age. It would be rather pointless if the Reds signed a player that is arguably close to retiring.
So, we don't expect to see the Portugal international representing Liverpool in the near future.
