Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has urged the Reds to make a move for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry.

Liverpool have been linked with a summer move for the 26-year-old. Gnabry's contract does not expire until June 2023.

The forward possesses a current market value of £58.50 million. Johnson believes that signing Gnabry would be "smart business" by Liverpool.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told bettingodds.com the following: "I really like him. I believe that’s a deal that Liverpool would look at more seriously because of the price and because of his age. That move would tick their criteria much more. That’s smart business.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can see where Johnson is coming from. Because of Gnabry's contract situation, Liverpool would more than likely be able to sign him on the cheap.

Bayern Munich risk losing the winger on a free transfer next summer if they don't renew his contract or move him on in the coming months.

Gnabry, 26, would be a decent addition to Liverpool's attack. He scored 17 goals and registered 10 assists in 45 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.

Gnabry also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.23 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand certainly likes what Gnabry brings to a game of football.

"His stats are phenomenal. He's sitting in the top level, world class," he told BT Sport back in August 2020, as quoted by The Daily Mail.

"He's come to Germany and set the place on fire, he was absolutely stunning tonight. His decision making has been extraordinary.

"I'll go as far as to say he's one of the most improved players in football at the moment. I don't think anyone's upwards trajectory is as sharp as his.

"From where he was, being discarded by Arsenal and West Brom, to where he is now. Wow."

The aforementioned figures and comments highlight that Gnabry is worth pursuing.
