"I must admit, he disappoints me" - Michael Owen on Liverpool man

Former Red Michael Owen has given his opinion on Liverpool forward Divock Origi.

Last weekend, Wolverhampton Wanderers welcomed Liverpool to the Molineux Stadium. Origi came off the bench to score the winning goal for the Reds with basically the last kick of the match.

Once the Premier League fixture had concluded, Owen said that the 26-year-old disappoints him when he starts for Liverpool. Owen further added that Origi is very much an impact player.

Owen said the following about Origi on Premier League Productions (06:12): “Whenever he starts, I must admit, he disappoints me.

“I know you will say, ‘What about Barcelona in the Champions League?’ Of course, he has had the most unbelievable moments in a Liverpool shirt, but overall when he starts, he disappoints me.

“I think he is an impact sub, but he might get a few more starts now, especially in January [with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane off to the AFCON].”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We believe that Owen's comments are slightly harsh. The reality is, Origi is very much a squad player for Liverpool.

The forward has only played 6,663 minutes of football for the Reds' first-team in his seven years at the club.

Therefore, it must be difficult for Origi to start the odd match and perform to his absolute best every time.

It is common knowledge that most footballers need to be playing regularly to consistently play well.
