"I like" - Virgil van Dijk on his favourite away venue

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has revealed the away venues that he likes playing at.

The Dutchman has become an Anfield favourite since joining the club back in January 2018.

Van Dijk was named the runner-up for the 2019 Ballon d'Or, which provides an insight into why the Reds supporters love him. He is a world-class footballer at the end of the day.

Van Dijk was recently asked to put his Liverpool allegiance aside and name his favourite away stadium. But, it turns out that the 30-year-old likes playing at a number of venues.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Van Dijk told Amazon the following: "I like playing in every stadium, St Mary's, the Emirates, Stamford Bridge, Elland Road, Villa Park - I am just enjoying playing football in any stadium, whether it's hostile or quiet. It's our fans that have the better of the stadium. "It's always a pleasure to be out there, playing on fantastic football pitches, playing in front of so many fans, it's an incredible feeling."

Anfield Watch Verdict

It is common knowledge that all the stadiums that Van Dijk named don't compare to Anfield. The atmosphere within the stadium before, during and after a big game is something else.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has labelled Champions League nights at Anfield the best in the world simply because of the fans.

"They are probably the best in world football," the German told FIFA's official website back in 2019. "European nights at Anfield (is what Liverpool do better than anyone else).

"I worked at [Borussia] Dortmund and it was absolutely great, outstanding, but one or two performances at Liverpool brought the whole community together and were really special."

At Anfield Watch, we really missed the Anfield faithful when COVID-19 first hit the United Kingdom. The stadium did not host a crowd for basically the entire 2020-21 campaign as a result of the virus.

Watching Liverpool did not feel the same. But, those days are long gone. Anfield has pretty much been full for the entire 2021-22 campaign.
