"I have to say sorry for that" - Jurgen Klopp apologises to fans for Napoli display

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has apologised to the fans after last night's 4-1 defeat to Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Post-game, the German acknowledged that the supporters spent a lot of money to travel to Italy to watch the Champions League group stage fixture.

With that being the case, Klopp apologised to the fans.

He told Liverpoolfc.com the following: "It’s a long flight from Liverpool to Napoli. For all the things they invest, I understand 100 per cent it was a very disappointing night so, of course, I put up (my hands), I have to say sorry for that."

Klopp further added: "I think the problems we had tonight were obvious. Number one, Napoli played a really good game and we played a really bad game.

"Why did we play a bad game? We cannot ignore the start and how it happened, how it started with the penalty and then shortly after that another penalty.

"In this atmosphere, that’s not easy, but our problems obviously were that we just didn’t play good enough.

"That means in our specific case we were never compact. I can’t remember a situation where we were compact. We had for 60 minutes not one counter-pressing situation in a game where we lost a lot of balls, just because we were far away."

Klopp is a world-class manager for a number of reasons. The 55-year-old has won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield during his time at Anfield.

But, the thing that we love about Klopp is that he relates to the supporters. We are certain that the Reds who travelled to Italy to watch the game would have appreciated the German's apology.

On another note, Liverpool's next clash is against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday.

The Premier League clash will kick-off at 3:00pm UK time.
