"I got the impression" - Garth Crooks on Luis Diaz against Bournemouth
Pundit Garth Crooks was very impressed with Luis Diaz's performance against Bournemouth at Anfield last weekend.
The winger scored two goals during the Reds' 9-0 victory over the Cherries. Diaz also registered a WhoScored player rating of 8.53 against Bournemouth.
Crooks believes that the Colombia international showed why he could be Sadio Mane's long-term replacement.
“His first headed goal was absolutely superb and the second just as good,” the former Tottenham man wrote in his column for BBC Sport.
“Against Bournemouth, Diaz wasn’t only finding the net; he also looked an integral part of the production on the Anfield stage.
“For the first time I got the impression the Colombian might fill the vacuum left by Sadio Mane’s departure.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto for a transfer fee of £42.30 million back in January 2022.
The winger has scored nine goals and registered five assists in 31 appearances for the club's first-team.
The aforementioned figures highlight that Diaz has been a solid signing for Liverpool. We do hope that the 25-year-old can fill the void left by Mane.
The Senegal international found the back of the net 120 times and secured 49 assists in 269 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
Mane also helped the club win the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup and FA Cup.
So, Diaz has a bit of work to do if he is to replace Mane in the long-term. But, nothing is impossible.
