"I felt like" - Raheem Sterling opens up on Liverpool departure

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has opened up on departing Liverpool.

The 27-year-old was a Red for five years. Sterling ended up forcing a move to Manchester during the summer of 2015.

The Citizens paid €63.70 million for the England international. However, Sterling has revealed that he is disappointed about how his time at Anfield ended.

Sterling told Sky Sports the following: “I said at the time, I felt like my ambitions and Liverpool’s ambitions at the time weren’t really aligned. The way it went about is the only disappointment I have from it.

“I did [have good times at Liverpool], at such a young age with a club that invested a lot in me. It had a big part in my teenage years so they’ve had a massive role in my life. It’s a club I hold really closely, my daughter still lives in Liverpool and I’ve got a lot of time for the people there.

“When friends or something ask what it’s like at Anfield, I always say if you have a game coming up against Manchester United or Man City, it almost felt like the fans and the city gave you an extra superpower, making you feel like you could do things you didn’t think you could do, that’s how it felt. It’s a really special stadium.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Sterling certainly showed potential during his time at Liverpool. The winger scored 23 goals and registered 25 assists in 129 appearances for the club's first-team, but won no trophies.

However, there is no denying that Manchester City have got Sterling's best years thus far. The 27-year-old has found the back of the net 121 times and registered 89 assists in 315 appearances for the Citizens.

Sterling has also won nine major trophies with Manchester City. Therefore, you would have to say that the forward's move to the Etihad has been a success.

But, the way Sterling left the club was disgraceful. Majority of Liverpool fans would agree with us.
