"I don’t think Mane signs" - Pundit tips Sadio Mane not to agree new deal with Liverpool
Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Sadio Mane might leave Liverpool.
Speaking to Football Insider, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the former Aston Villa striker said that he could see the winger departing the club unless he gets a decent pay rise.
"I don’t think Mane signs unless he gets exactly what he feels he deserves," Agbonlahor said. "If Liverpool doesn’t pay that, I don’t feel he will sign. He knows he will not be short of options.
"He’s been phenomenal this season and since he’s joined Liverpool. I’m sure he will demand what he’s worth. If he sees Salah is getting £300,000-a-week, he’ll want £250,000-a-week and he deserves it. With the numbers he’s getting, it’s huge but he deserves it.
“These players will know what other players in the league are getting and they will make Liverpool pay the same.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
In a recent report from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, as cited by Anfield Watch, he claimed that the Liverpool forward could 'imagine' himself joining Bayern Munich this summer.
Mane's contract expires at the end of the 2022-23 season, similar to Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Bayern's manager Julian Naglesmann and the club's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic want Mane as part of their plans for next season.
With the futures of Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry up in the air, Mane could provide some much-needed cover on the wing and upfront for the German side.
However, a report from BILD, as cited by IMiaSanMia's Twitter account, claimed that the German champions are planning on having both Mane and Lewandowski in attack for next season.
I am getting the feeling that if one of the original front three departs the club this summer, it would be Mane. He's definitely replaceable and if Salah does sign a new contract, then he's going to be demanding crazy money.
If he does end up leaving it will no doubt be sad but in our eyes, he'll always be a Liverpool legend for what he has achieved during his time on Merseyside.
