“I don’t think he’s done anything wrong" - Michael Owen defends Darwin Nunez

Former Liverpool player Michael Owen has defended Reds forward Darwin Nunez.

The club signed the Uruguay international from Benfica for a transfer fee of €75 million back in the summer.

Since then, Nunez has copped a fair bit of criticism. The 23-year-old has scored four goals in 10 appearances for Liverpool.

Nunez also received a three match suspension for headbutting Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen back in August.

But, the forward has scored two goals in the past two games. Owen recently said the following about Nunez.

“A lot of people are writing him off or saying, ‘Ooh, I’m not sure about Liverpool’s new signing’,” he told BT Sport, as quoted by the Metro.

“I don’t think he’s done anything wrong for Liverpool so far, he scored against Arsenal, he played fine against Rangers – a lot of chances.

“We talk about time, (Roberto) Firmino’s had plenty, cool in front of goal. He scored against Arsenal, we know all about him, just a touch of class.”

We really like what Nunez brings to the table. The Uruguay international is a proper centre-forward.

Nunez is agile, a natural finisher and he makes the right runs. We are confident that he will prove his worth over time.

It is important to remember that Nunez is only 23 years of age. With that being the case, he has plenty of scope for improvement.

We can't wait to see how good Nunez is in a couple of years.
