“I don’t think he’s a player for Barcelona and Real Madrid" - Jamie Carragher on Salah
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Reds winger Mohamed Salah is made for the Premier League.
The Egyptian international's contract expires at the conclusion of next season. Therefore, there has been plenty of talk regarding Salah's future.
The 29-year-old has even been linked with a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid. However, Salah confirmed yesterday that he intends on staying at Anfield next season.
Despite that being the case, the forward has reportedly turned down a new deal from Liverpool (money problems).
But, Carragher has urged Salah to extend his current contract.
“I don’t think he’s a player for Barcelona and Real Madrid," he said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo and Anfield Watch on Twitter.
"That’s not to say he’s not good enough; he’s not their type of player. I think he suits the Premier League, the way we play, it’d be a big mistake for him to leave.
“If it’s a money issue, Liverpool will still offer him a lot of money but Mo Salah is that fit if he signed a four-year contract and played till he was 33.
“He still could go and do another four years, he could do what Ronaldo’s doing in another league where it’s about money. This decision should not be about money, this should be about football and this is the best place for him.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Carragher is coming from. There is no denying that Salah is made for the Premier League.
The winger has scored 120 goals and registered 52 assists (193 appearances) in England's first division of football.
Salah is also loved by the Anfield faithful. Therefore, we believe that he should be looking to reach new terms with the club.
