"I don't see that happening" - Pundit on forward Liverpool have been linked with

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that Liverpool should steer clear of Chelsea's Timo Werner amid recent links.

In the past week, there have been some rumours that Werner is a target for Liverpool this summer. One pundit has even claimed that the German striker would be a good option for the Reds.

However, Agbonlahor believes that Liverpool should stay away from Werner.

"I don’t think Timo Werner is an option for Liverpool," he told Football Insider.

“Yes, (Roberto) Firmino is not playing his best football and might leave but Timo Werner has shown at Chelsea he is short of confidence in front of goal.

“He reminds me a bit of Fernando Torres when he was at Chelsea and really struggled with the basics. He was such a good player at Liverpool but then a totally different player for Chelsea, it was like someone had taken his powers.

“Timo Werner looks like a different player to who Liverpool (tried to) sign (back in 2020). I don’t think where Liverpool are, ahead of Chelsea in terms of squad quality, I don’t think they would want to sign a player who is not good enough for Chelsea.

“I don’t see that happening and I think they dodged a bullet when they were first interested in him.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

If Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants Werner as an attacking option then I wouldn't say no.

There is a player in there, but he just hasn't found his feet at Chelsea.

I honestly believe under Klopp he would rediscover his RB Leipzig form and become one of the best strikers in the world again.

However, I think the ship has sailed for him every joining Liverpool. With us spending €100 million on Darwin Nunez, I very much doubt we go out and sign another forward.

Who knows though, crazier things have happened.
