Former Liverpool player John Aldridge has given his verdict on the argument which took place between James Milner and Virgil van Dijk against Manchester United at Old Trafford last Monday night.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for the Red Devils against the Reds. However, the goal could have been prevented had Van Dijk got out to the England international.

Milner gave the Dutchman a spray as a result. But, Aldridge didn't have an issue with the 36-year-old's actions.

"There were some disagreements between Liverpool's players during Monday's match but I don't mind them rowing with each other. I quite like the way James Milner had a go at Virgil because the centre-back had his worst game in a red shirt," he told the Liverpool Echo, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"He knows it and he's got to take a look at himself in the mirror. You don't want people to be happy with others not playing well. You need to have that on the pitch and in the dressing room."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We didn't have a problem with Milner's actions. The reality is, Liverpool versus Manchester United is a huge fixture.

It's a match where we want to see the players demanding the best out of each other. We doubt Van Dijk took Milner's spray personally.

Liverpool ended up losing the Premier League fixture 2-1. So, it was a very bad night at the office for Jurgen Klopp's team.

But, that's how football goes sometimes.
