"I don't like" - Virgil van Dijk's honest opinion on loss to Inter Milan

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has given his honest opinion on the club's performance against Inter Milan last night.

The Reds lost the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against the Serie A giants 1-0 at Anfield. However, Liverpool did progress to the quarter-finals as a result of the aggregate score (2-1).

Despite that being the case, Van Dijk made it clear that he does not like losing football matches.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Dutchman told beIN SPORTS the following: "I am disappointed that we lost but I have to turn it into happiness because we are through. But I don't like losing, we need to be ready for the weekend."

Van Dijk added: "We are all human beings. Sometimes you miss chances - luckily we don't lose many games but today it happened. But we are through and that is the main message."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Van Dijk. It is never good to see Liverpool lose games.

In saying that, the objective was to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which the Reds managed to do.

Liverpool did come up against a very good side. Inter Milan are the reigning champions of Italy for a reason, so it's nice to see the back of them.

Also, losing the odd game here and there is not a bad thing. A defeat keeps the players honest.

The quarter-final draw will take place on the 18th of March in Nyon, Switzerland.

In terms of the weekend, Liverpool will face Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. The Premier League clash will kick-off at 12:30 local time on Saturday.

Liverpool are six points behind league leaders Manchester City. But, the Reds do have a game in hand. We wish Jurgen Klopp's side all the best for the match.
