“I can’t believe" - Jamie Carragher on what he thought would happen against Arsenal
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher could not believe that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp did not make a change at half-time against Arsenal last night.
The Gunners were down to 10 men after midfielder Granit Xhaka was sent off for a reckless challenge on Reds forward Diogo Jota during the first-half of the aforementioned League Cup semi-final first leg clash at Anfield.
With that being the case, Carragher thought that Klopp would have made an attacking substitute at the break.
As quoted by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account, the Scouser told Sky Sports the following: "I can't believe Liverpool came out for that second half with the same XI. They had to make a change at half-time. Arsenal were down to 10 men."Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Carragher is coming from. The moment that Xhaka was sent off, Arsenal parked the bus.
Klopp started the match with a midfield which possessed players that naturally work hard (Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner).
The aforementioned players put in a shift, but they aren't necessarily great at breaking teams down due to their lack of technical ability with the ball.
Therefore, Klopp should have acted quicker to reorganise his side. The German did not make a substitute until an hour had been played (Curtis Jones came on for Milner) .
The second leg will take place at the Emirates Stadium at 07:45 pm next Thursday.
