"I can see" - Steve McManaman on Liverpool's summer transfer window
Steven McManaman has discussed Liverpool's summer transfer window and given his thoughts on if the Reds need to sign more players.
Speaking in his column for Horseracing.net, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, the Liverpool legend believes the Reds don't need to make any more signings this summer.
“I don’t believe Liverpool need to make more signings this summer. Where would you put them? They’ve made three signings already this summer.
"They’ve brought in Fábio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, who are two players for the future and they’ve also brought in Darwin Núñez, who’s another player for the future to a certain extent but has cost them a lot of money.
“Players will have to leave as there isn’t enough space to fit everybody in. Keeping the players happy now is as hard a job as it is to jam all of these players into the team.
"I can see a number of players leaving, with Liverpool beginning to recoup some of the money they’ve spent. That just makes business sense.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
This seems like it's going to be a debate until the end of the summer transfer window. 50% of fans think we need a midfielder and the other 50% think we have enough depth.
I've always been in the camp of we need a world-class right-sided midfielder. Depth is not an issue for me but we don't have anyone in that position with the same ilk as Thiago Alcantara or Fabinho.
However, if we play a 4-2-3-1 then it doesn't really matter as I can see the pair playing together in that midfield two.
Saying that, if we don't sign a midfielder this summer then we definitely need one next summer transfer window as most of our midfielders will be over or closing in on 30.
Hopefully it's Jude Bellingham but who knows at this point.
