"I can do much better" - Virgil van Dijk on his form so far this season

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk is not pleased with his early season form.

The Dutchman has looked a bit off the pace so far this campaign. However, Van Dijk has averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.12 in the early stages of the season, which highlights that he has been performing reasonably well.

Despite that being the case, Van Dijk has made it clear he has not been at his best in recent weeks.

“The only way to do it is to play the games, learn from the mistakes, don’t listen to the outside world too much, speak to the people close to you,” the Dutchman was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

“I’ve said it many times, we are all human beings and we all want to do as well as we can and the same goes for me. I know for a fact I can do much better, but we all can do better.

“I feel very hurt if we concede goals and don’t keep clean sheets and I feel that responsibility, but that’s a good thing.

“I want to turn this season around not for myself, but for all of us associated with the club.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Back in October 2020, Van Dijk suffered a serious knee injury against Everton at Goodison Park.

As a result, the centre-back missed a total of 45 games. Van Dijk hasn't quite been the same player since.

He certainly isn't as imposing as he used to be. But, we do believe that Van Dijk is being a bit harsh on himself.

As we have already pointed out, the defender has been in reasonable form for Liverpool so far this season.
