"I am confident" - Gus Poyet on Liverpool new-boy Darwin Nunez
Pundit Gus Poyet is confident that new-boy Darwin Nunez will score goals for Liverpool this season.
The Reds signed the striker from Benfica for a transfer fee of £85 million earlier this summer.
Nunez has had a solid start to life at Anfield. The 23-year-old has scored two goals and registered one assist in two competitive appearances.
Poyet believes that Nunez will continue his good form for the remainder of the season.
“I am confident he will score lots of goals and I do believe he will be a fan favourite by the end of the season," he told Lord Ping, as quoted Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
“Nunez has all the attributes to be a great goalscorer in the Premier League. The goal against Fulham will give him the confidence he needs. It is easier to adapt to the Premier League as a defender than as a striker.
“Nunez will have to deal with situations where he might feel he's been fouled and the referee does not call it. Nunez will be knocked down many times, he'll be playing against defensive teams because he plays for Liverpool.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can't see Nunez failing at Anfield. The striker has one of the best managers in world football keeping an eye on him and he is surrounded by top-class players.
Nunez will receive superb service, especially from out wide. Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are all capable of registering an assist.
So, sit back and enjoy the ride. Nunez will not go quietly. Liverpool scored 94 goals in the Premier League last season.
It will be interesting to see if the Reds can better the aforementioned number this campaign.
