How Liverpool could face further punishments after Tottenham defeat
Liverpool have been hit with a fine from the FA, following the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, while Alexis Mac Allister could be in hot water over a deleted Instagram post.
The Reds' unbeaten run stretching back to April came to a cruel end on Saturday, as Jurgen Klopp's side fell to a last-gasp defeat to Spurs, having gone down to nine men.
The match was marred by controversial and, provably, incorrect refereeing decisions, most notably the disallowing of Luis Diaz's first-half goal through what PGMOL described as 'significant human error'.
In the aftermath, Klopp described the game as the most 'unfair' he has ever played, while Liverpool have since released a strongly worded statement in response to PGMOL's admission.
As well as losing the game in the most infuriating of circumstances, Liverpool also now face suspensions for dismissed duo Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, while there are fears over Cody Gakpo's fitness with the forward leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a leg brace.
FA Fine
On top of all that, it has been reported that the Reds have been hit with a £25,000 fine from the FA for ill-discipline.
Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Virgil van Dijk were all cautioned, along with assistant manager Peter Krawietz, during the game while Jota was dismissed after receiving two yellow and Jones was shown a straight red.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have now been given the standard punishment for clubs who receive more than five bookings in a game.
Deleted Instagram post
Meanwhile, Mac Allister has risked drawing separate FA attention for a since-deleted Instagram post which could be perceived as calling into question the integrity of referee Simon Hooper.
The Liverpool number 10 responded to Argentina international teammate Cristiano Romero's post praising his Spurs side for their last-gasp victory.
Romero wrote: “This team has great spirit, great heart. Always like this, all together.” To which Mac Allister responded: “normal when you play with 12”.
Mac Allister has since deleted the comment.
Klopp was handed a two-match touchline ban back in April after being judged to have accused referee Paul Tierney of holding a grudge against Liverpool in the dramatic 4-3 win over Spurs.
