Liverpool's imminent appointment of Feyenoord's Arne Slot as their new head coach could have some unexpected consequences for one of their biggest rivals.

Now that a compensation package worth £9.4m has reportedly been reached between Feyenoord and Liverpool for Slot's release, the Rotterdam-based club are now believed to be eyeing Albert Stuivenberg as one of their top targets to fill the managerial vacancy this summer.

According to Dutch outlet AD, Stuivenberg, currently serving as Mikel Arteta's assistant manager at Arsenal, has emerged as a leading contender for the position.

An experienced coach

Having previously worked as a youth coach at Feyenoord for ten years from 1991 to 2001, before spending another two years as manager of the under-19s, Stuivenberg boasts a deep understanding of the club's ethos, thus making him an attractive proposition.

After that, the 53-year-old also took charge of the Netherlands' under-17 and under-21 sides.

Later in life, his coaching career saw him hold various positions abroad, too, including as assistant manager at Manchester United under Louis van Gaal and a managerial stint at Genk, where he led the team to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the 2016-17 season.

Major blow for Arsenal

Stuivenberg has been instrumental in Arteta's coaching setup at Arsenal since December 2019, contributing to the club's success in winning one FA Cup and two Community Shields.

He has also stepped in as interim manager during Arteta's absences, demonstrating his managerial capabilities.

Should he take the Feyenoord job, this would represent a major blow for the North London club.

What's more, Stuivenberg is not the only member of Arteta's coaching staff attracting attention from other clubs.

According to Sports Mole, Carlos Cuesta, another Arsenal assistant, has reportedly caught the eye of Norwich City.

Cuesta, 28, is highly regarded in the coaching world, with previous experience at Atletico Madrid and Juventus before joining Arsenal in 2020.
