"History is the bit that you just can't replace" - Glen Johnson on Liverpool vs City
Former Red Glen Johnson was asked to give his verdict on which club is bigger - Liverpool or Manchester City.
The 38-year-old teamed up with ex-Citizens defender Richard Dunne to answer a few questions about the two teams.
Johnson and Dunne were asked to name which club is larger. The former Liverpool full-back had the following to say.
"(Manchester) United and Liverpool have been winning trophies before we were born," he told BetWay (03:35).
"City like you say, they're obviously a force of a club and they will go on to win things for many many years. But, that history is the bit that you just can't replace at the moment."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Johnson's take. The reality is, Liverpool have been winning silverware for decades.
Manchester City have been dominant in the past 10 years. The Citizens have won four of the past five Premier League titles. But, they weren't that successful beforehand.
Also, Manchester City are yet to win the European Cup. Liverpool have won the aforementioned trophy on six occasions.
As a result of the Reds' success over many years, they have become one of the best supported clubs in world football.
Manchester City are still building their brand. So, as things stand, Liverpool are the bigger club.
Manchester City have a long way to go if they are to catch the Merseyside-based team.
