"His contribution" - Pundit on why the fans need to get behind Andy Robertson

Former Chelsea man Pat Nevin has defended Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.

The Reds signed the Scotland international from Hull City for a transfer fee of £8.10 million back in the summer of 2017.

Since then, Robertson has found the back of the net eight times and registered 54 assists in 231 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The full-back has also helped the club win the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup, FA Cup and the Community Shield.

However, Robertson has struggled this season. He has averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.58 across Liverpool's opening six Premier League fixtures.

Despite that being the case, Nevin wants to see the Anfield faithful get behind Robertson.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told Grosvenor Sport the following: "(He) is one of the most important parts of Liverpool's success. His contribution to the goals and assists has dropped off this season but I don't think he's playing badly.

"He had a brilliant understanding with Sadio Mane but he has somebody else in front of him now and the space that Sadio left isn't there anymore so it's harder for him."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Nevin's take. Robertson has been a terrific player for Liverpool.

The left-back is just a bit below par at this current moment. But, Robertson is a fighter.

Plus, the Scotland international is only 28 years of age. Robertson's career is far from over. The defender has plenty of time left in his career to get back to his best.
