“He’s turning into a top player" - Pundit impressed with Liverpool youngster
Pundit Dave Edwards has recently praised Wales and Liverpool right-back Neco Williams.
The 20-year-old started against Belgium at the Cardiff City stadium earlier this week.
Williams was named Man of the Match for his display in the aforementioned World Cup qualifier.
Once the match had concluded, Edwards said that he was impressed with Williams' performances right throughout the November international break.
The former Wales international further added that the youngster might need to leave Liverpool on loan to gain more opportunity at club level.
“He’s going to be in this Wales team for a very, very long time,” Edwards told Sky Sports Football (16/11/21 at 10:05 pm). “He’s cemented his place into the team also.
“He came onto the scene about a year ago, made a big impact, then it went quiet for him. But these last few games, he has been Wales’ best player.
“Hopefully, he can start playing more at club level. Liverpool is a great place for him to be. But he might need to go out on loan and get some more games.
“He’s turning into a top player. What I said is that you don’t get many wing-backs who like to make things happen like he does. He’s all action. And he’s a good defender. Bright future for Neco.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Williams has been at Liverpool since 2009. However, the 20-year-old right-back has only made 28 appearances for the club's first-team.
In terms of this season, Williams has only featured for Liverpool's first-team three times.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the youngster in the pecking order, we would love to see him go out on loan.
A loan spell would certainly help Williams develop. The reality is, you learn more by playing regular senior football.
Therefore, hopefully the club and Williams can reach some sort of an agreement in the future regarding a loan deal.
Liverpool could lose the right-back permanently if they can't find a way to guarantee him games at senior level.
