Journalist Neil Jones has praised Liverpool winger Sadio Mane for his recent performances.

The Senegal international has been playing as a striker in recent times and it seems to be working.

Mane has scored five goals in Liverpool's last six matches. Jones has credited the 30-year-old's terrific form down to a change in position.

“He’s playing in a different position and it’s almost like it has just unlocked the rest of the pitch to him,” he told Redmen TV Plus.

“You look at what he’s done in the last few weeks: pressing from the front to score a goal at Wembley (against Manchester City), right foot volley, that finish on Tuesday night (against Manchester United) was unbelievable, the assist for (Mohamed) Salah. It’s almost like it has taken him out of his box a little bit."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Mane has been exceptional for Liverpool since signing for the club from Southampton for a transfer fee of £37.08 million back in the summer of 2016.

The winger has found the back of the net 116 times and registered 46 assists in 260 appearances for the Reds' first-team.

Mane has also won five major trophies with Liverpool.

It will be interesting to see where his long-term future lies. Mane's current contract expires in June 2023.

With that being the case, it would be fair to assume that his career at Anfield could be coming to an end or he will sign a contract extension.

We do hope that Mane hangs around for a few more years. As have seen in recent times, the forward is far from finished at the top level.

Therefore, Mane's contract situation is one to keep an eye on.
