"He’s not ready" - Tim Sherwood on Liverpool youngster that started against Spurs

Pundit Tim Sherwood has given his opinion on Tyler Morton's performance against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

A number of Liverpool players have recently tested positive for COVID-19.

With that being the case, Morton was given an opportunity to start in the aforementioned Premier League fixture.

However, Sherwood believes that the 19-year-old looked out of his depth in North London.

“With the young boy Morton, as the six,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions (19/12/21 at 7:10 pm). “I think he is a decent player on the ball, but he’s not ready to play in their on his own.

“To be the only protection, with Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and [Andy] Robertson just vacating them areas and playing as wingers really.

“I think with [Jordan] Henderson, I can understand it, even without [Virgil] Van Dijk. But you have to tweak it sometimes without Van Dijk.”

Spurs ended up securing a 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Morton registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.13 for his 60-minute performance against Tottenham, which does highlight that he did not play well last weekend.

However, there is no denying that Morton does possess talent. The midfielder averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.01 in his two appearances in the Champions League this season.

The aforementioned figure highlights that Morton is a player that has the potential to be a solid senior footballer for Liverpool.

Therefore, we are not concerned about the youngster's performance against Spurs.
