"He's making poor errors" - Tim Sherwood on Virgil van Dijk

Pundit Tim Sherwood has given his opinion on Virgil van Dijk's form.

The Liverpool centre-back has looked a bit lethargic out on the pitch so far this season.

Van Dijk has arguably been at fault for a few goals that Liverpool have conceded this campaign.

Sherwood is under the impression that the Dutchman is making mistakes because he is switching off at crucial stages.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told Premier League Productions the following: “It’s almost for me, I use the phrase ‘too cool to sweat’, and that’s what he looks like at the moment. He almost finds it too easy and he’s making poor errors because he’s switching off.

“You have to be concentrating all of the time, and if you’re not playing well make sure others around you are and organise them. With Mo Salah playing the way he is at the moment, you’ve not got the firepower to outscore every team you play against.

“Sometimes you’re going to have to defend, doggedly, and they’re not doing that.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can see where Sherwood is coming from. Van Dijk is very laid back when he defends.

But, the Dutchman has always been a 'cool customer' during his time at Anfield.

We believe that Van Dijk is not at his best simply because everyone else around him is struggling.

Liverpool have only won two of their opening seven Premier League fixtures this season, which backs up the aforementioned argument.

The whole team needs to lift. The Reds have won six major trophies in the past three years. In other words, Liverpool are a very capable side.

However, we are yet to see the best of Jurgen Klopp's team this season.
