"He’s good" - Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool youngster after EFL Cup win
Jurgen Klopp has given his thoughts on Ben Doak's Liverpool debut in the EFL Cup vs Derby last night.
Jurgen Klopp is known for giving his youngsters a chance to prove themselves in the Carabao Cup and that is exactly what he did last night against League One Derby County.
The German gave valuable minutes to the likes of Stefan Bajcetic, Layton Stewart, Bobby Clark and Melkamu Frauendorf. However, one player stood out amongst everyone. 16-year-old Ben Doak.
Liverpool only signed the Scottish youngster from Celtic this summer but he has already massively impressed everybody at the AXA Training Centre, even the main man himself, Klopp.
"His instructions were easy: do what you do all the time. He is really a lively boy, a smart player, good dribbler, fast, can use both legs. He’s good," Klopp said after Doak's 15-minute cameo against Derby, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
"It was nice to watch, really nice to watch - him coming in and immediately a lot of things are obviously natural to him, which is really helpful.
"I am pretty sure his family was here tonight. I can remember when I saw the family at the AXA [training ground] when we signed the boy, how excited everybody was. Now having this night, it’s the next step, it’s cool. He showed up, obviously."
Anfield Watch Verdict
As previously mentioned, even since he joined from Celtic in July, Doak has been on fire for the youth teams, scoring eight goals and grabbing six assists in 14 games this season.
Even though he only played 16 minutes last night, those minutes were more than enough to show off how talented the 16-year-old is.
He has now announced himself to a large majority of the fanbase so it would not be a surprise if we see Doak start the next round of the EFL Cup. Who knows, given more minutes he might even grab a goal or two.
