"He's a work in progress" - Steve McManaman's take on Darwin Nunez

Pundit Steve McManaman has given his opinion on Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez.

The Reds signed the Uruguay international from Benfica for a transfer fee of €75 million during the recent summer transfer window.

Since then, Nunez has scored two goals and registered one assist in eight appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The 23-year-old was also suspended for three Premier League fixtures after headbutting Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen at Anfield back in August.

So, Nunez has had a slow start to life at Anfield. However, McManaman has made it clear that the forward is a "work in progress".

“You have to remember what type of player Nunez is. He likes to run forward, that was his best attribute when he played against Liverpool last year in the Champions League. He’s a work in progress,” he told BT Sport.

We completely agree with McManaman's take. Nunez is only a youngster, so he is still learning his craft.

The Uruguay international was a fine player for Benfica. Nunez found the back of the net 48 times and secured 16 assists in 85 appearances for the Portuguese side.

The aforementioned figures highlight that he possesses plenty of potential. So, it's only a matter of time until Nunez starts banging in the goals for Liverpool.

Once the forward gets on a roll, he will be hard to stop.
