"He’s a very Klopp-type player" - Danny Murphy on Darwin Nunez
Pundit Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to make a move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
The Reds have recently been linked with a move for the 22-year-old. Murphy believes that Nunez would suit Jurgen Klopp's system.
With that being the case, he would like to see the club make a move for the Uruguay international.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo and AW on Twitter, Murphy said the following: “He’s a very Klopp-type player with high energy, both with and without the ball. He doesn’t mind a press and saw him running back a few times. When he hasn’t got the ball, he doesn’t mind running in behind.
“He’s more of a number nine, he’s not going to play out wide.”
Nunez is out of contract at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign, so he will cost Liverpool a transfer fee if they are to sign him in the near future.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Murphy is spot on. Nunez would suit Klopp's style of play. Liverpool have not played with a genuine centre-forward in quite a few years.
Signing Nunez would buck the trend. But, the reality is, we don't have a clue where the Uruguay international will be playing his football next season.
However, we do hope to see him wearing the famous red. On another note, the 2022-23 Premier League campaign will kick-off in early August.
It will be interesting to see how Liverpool go next season. A lot of physical and mental energy went into the 2021-22 campaign.
Fighting for the quadruple has to be exhausting. Hopefully the players have a solid pre-season and show early on in the campaign that they are ready to challenge on all fronts again.
