"Helped me" - Harvey Elliott on what has aided him ahead of the 2022-23 season

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has opened up ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Englishman suffered a serious ankle injury against Leeds United at Elland Road last season.

Elliott missed a total of 30 games for the Reds as a result. However, the 19-year-old is back to full fitness and looking forward to the new campaign.

“I think to go out and show again who I am really. Last season came with a lot of ups and downs and a lot of challenges for myself but if anything it’s helped me towards this season,” he told LFCTV, as quoted by the Mirror.

“This pre-season has been great for me. It’s been intense and that’s what I needed. The minutes have been great in terms of going out and showcasing my ability and the different situations that come with it. There is a lot of learning this season and there will be more and more as the season goes on. I’m looking forward to the season. Hopefully I can go out and prove again why I could be, and should be, starting in this team.

“If you look at the team, we just keep on bringing in more and more unbelievable talent, so it’s going to be hard but I’m here if I’m needed and I’m always willing to give 100 per cent to myself, the team, the badge and the fans.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Elliott has had a reasonable start to his senior career. The 19-year-old midfielder has already made 20 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

As Elliott pointed out, it won't be easy breaking into Jurgen Klopp's first-team this season.

The German has plenty of midfield options at his disposal (Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Elliott).

But, because Liverpool play in a number of competitions, Elliott should get plenty of opportunity next season.

Only time will tell if that is to be the case. We wish the youngster all the very best ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
