"He would be an unbelievable player for Liverpool" - Pundit on Man United winger
Former Premier League defender Jonathan Woodgate believes that Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho would be an "unbelievable player" for Liverpool.
The Reds were linked with a move for the 21-year-old last summer. However, Manchester United ended up signing Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of €85 million back in July 2021.
The Englishman has struggled since arriving at Old Trafford. Sancho has only scored four goals and registered two assists in 28 appearances for Manchester United this season.
With that being the case, Woodgate has stated that Sancho would have been a better fit for Liverpool.
The former Premier League defender told BBC Match of the Day the following: "He was exceptional at Dortmund. You need a little bit of time to settle in. You need a manager to believe in you.
"He is starting to play a lot of games, and he is starting to show what he can do. You need that time to settle in.
"At Manchester United at the minute, it hasn’t been great at the minute. Tell you what, he would be an unbelievable player for Liverpool him. He would fit into their system perfectly."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Woodgate is coming from. The reality is, Sancho is a talented forward.
The winger found the back of the net 50 times and secured 64 assists in 137 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
Therefore, it would be fair to assume that Sancho has been poorly managed at Manchester United. Perhaps the Englishman would thrive playing under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
The German is known for getting the best out of his players. Also, as Woodgate pointed out, Sancho would fit into Liverpool's system.
The Reds play an attacking brand of football, which would naturally suit Sancho. But, the reality is, the winger is a Manchester United player.
With that being the case, it is highly unlikely that we will ever see Sancho represent Liverpool.
