"He will score a lot of goals" - Rafa Benitez on Darwin Nunez

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has given his opinion on Reds forward Darwin Nunez.

The club signed the Uruguay international from Benfica for a transfer fee of ยฃ67.50 million earlier this summer.

Since then, Nunez has scored two goals and registered one assist in four appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

Benitez believes that the only way is up for the 23-year-old.

"I also think he will score a lot of goals for Liverpool and that he provides them with a different dynamic to Roberto Firmino," he told The Times, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

โ€œFirmino likes to drop off, create superiority in the middle of the pitch and help his team-mates score whereas Nunez is someone who always wants to be in the penalty box. He needs a little time and Liverpool just need a goal to boost their confidence.โ€

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Benitez's take. There is so much upside to Nunez's game.

As we have already pointed out, the forward is only 23 years of age. With that being the case, Nunez is far from the finished article.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has a track record of improving footballers. Also, as Benitez pointed out, Nunez gives the Reds a point of difference in attack.

The Uruguay international is a different player to the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz. Nunez is a genuine centre-forward.

We look forward to watching the youngster over the next few years.
