"He was dangerous" - Jurgen Klopp on Darwin Nunez's debut
Jurgen Klopp has given his opinion on Darwin Nunez's Liverpool debut.
Yesterday, Manchester United defeated the Reds 4-0 in a pre-season friendly in Thailand.
Despite that being the case, Klopp found a positive from the match. The Liverpool boss said that Nunez was "dangerous" against the Red Devils.
“He is a number nine and he can play on the wing as well. We will see where he will play,” Klopp said, as quoted by Metro.
“But what you could see is the boys were already searching for him.
“It was his third session (since arriving for pre-season training) and I think after the third sprint his lungs were nearly ready to explode.
“We nearly killed him these balls but he offered the runs and the boys wanted to pass the ball, that is for sure one of his strengths. He was dangerous, all these kinds of things.
“So Darwin, we will see. I think his profile is a proper number nine so that’s helpful with speed and aggression and using his body, all these kinds of things.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Nunez certainly did not hide against Manchester United. The striker looked to get on the ball.
We are confident that Nunez will be a hit at Anfield. The Uruguay international scored 34 goals in 41 appearances for Benfica's first-team last season.
Nunez also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.62 across the 2021-22 campaign.
The aforementioned figures highlight that the forward is a top player. The exciting thing about Nunez is that he is only 23 years of age.
But, he will probably need some time to adapt to a new system and league. So, we shouldn't be expecting too much from Nunez at the moment.
Over time, he will be a fine player for the club.
