"He told me he loved me" - Nabil Fekir on his failed transfer to Liverpool

Nabil Fekir has opened up about his failed transfer to Liverpool that took place in the summer of 2018.

Speaking to BetisTV, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the attacker admitted that not joining Liverpool was "really difficult" to deal with.

He said: "Everything was closed. I passed all the interviews, I spoke with Jurgen Klopp, he told me that he loved me. We all did it and, when we were about to sign, there were problems with my representative and the negotiation broke down.

"Of course I was disappointed not to go to Liverpool, very disappointed because Liverpool are a great club. I met the coach, Jurgen Klopp, and it went well.

"After meeting him, I wanted to join Liverpool even more. He’s a good person. It was really difficult to deal with as I really wanted to go to Liverpool. It was a moment that was not easy for me."

The transfer that never happened. Fekir was set to be Philippe Coutinho's replacement and he would've been part of Klopp's new-look midfield along with Fabinho and Naby Keita.

There were a lot of rumours going around at the time claiming that Fekir failed his medical or that his brother, who is his agent, pulled out of the deal.

My guess is that we will never find out what actually happened. Honestly, it seems like Fekir is still coming to terms with what could've been for him and he might want to keep that part of the story a secret.

However, he has made a nice career for himself playing for Spanish side Real Betis where he has become a key player for them.

It's not much of a consultation for the Frenchman considering he would've won the Champions League if he joined the Reds, but as they say, everything happens for a reason.
