"He said he was nervous" - Jurgen Klopp on Darwin Nunez

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that new-boy Darwin Nunez was "nervous" when he first arrived at the club.

The striker is coming off a decent season. Nunez found the back of the net 34 times in 41 appearances for Benfica last campaign.

That is why Liverpool paid the Portuguese club £67.50 million for the 23-year-old's services earlier this summer.

However, despite the fact that Nunez is blessed with ability, he was still nervous during his first few Liverpool training sessions, according to Klopp.

“Darwin is ready but that doesn’t mean he has to start.” he told the Liverpool Echo.

"He needs time to get used to a lot of things but is already a big help. He said he was nervous early on. (That is) normal. (But) he’s settled quickly. Feels at home."

Klopp added: “(Nunez and Roberto Firmino) are different players. They get on. They are both from South America, both offensive players but (play in) different positions.

“Bobby is an exceptional player. (He has) his own way of playing football.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

The aforementioned comments highlight that footballers are only human. Nunez was under pressure the minute Liverpool forked out a hefty transfer fee for him.

Also, it is important to remember that the striker is only 23 years of age.

So, we aren't surprised that Nunez was quite nervous when he first arrived at the club.

But, going by Klopp's comments, the youngster is starting to settle into life on Merseyside.

Hopefully Nunez can have a big season. It would give him plenty of confidence heading into the future if he could score a few goals this campaign.
