"He played a good game" - Jurgen Klopp on Alexander-Arnold against Rangers

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given his verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold's performance against Rangers at Anfield last night.

The right-back has struggled in the early parts of the 2022-23 campaign. However, Alexander-Arnold looked back to his best against Rangers.

The Scouser scored and defended reasonably well. Klopp had the following to say about Alexander-Arnold's performance post-game.

"He played a good game, defensively especially, a wonderful goal," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"How I said, we set it up differently. We cannot talk about it every week, but Trent has no defensive problem – we had a defensive problem – hopefully had – because our timing was not right and we take risk in defending, everybody knows that.

"If then the timing is not right, you open gaps and these gaps are very often (in) the back of Trent. Not because of him, but because of other situations and then he has to track back.

"Yes, how I said, we were not in the perfect moment and that's why we just adjusted it slightly."

Klopp added: "A wonderful goal. What can I say? I would now say, 'It's Trent!', but it's long ago that he last scored a free-kick, so I am happy he had this still in his locker."

Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory in the aforementioned Champions League fixture.

Anfield Watch Verdict

It was nice to see Alexander-Arnold silence a few of his critics. The right-back has received plenty of criticism from media outlets in recent times.

But, they'll be quiet for at least a week now. Hopefully Alexander-Arnold can kick on and propel Liverpool towards a trophy this season.

However, only time will tell if that is to be the case. On another note, Liverpool sit in ninth-place in the Premier League table.

So, the team needs to get cracking, otherwise it could be a very long season. We wish the team all the best for the remainder of the campaign.
