“He literally does do a bit of everything" - Michael Owen has lauded 28-year-old Reds player
Former Red Michael Owen praised Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his display against Porto at Anfield earlier this week.
The 28-year-old registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.32 for his 82-minute performance against the Portuguese side.
Come the end of the aforementioned Champions League group stage clash, Owen had the following to say about Oxlade-Chamberlain.
“He literally does do a bit of everything, doesn’t he? He can shoot from distance, he can get goals, he can see a pass, he doesn’t shirk away from his defensive duty," the former Red told BT Sport (24/11; 22:12).
“He shows a whole range of different attributes. And it just really is, trying to stay fit for a period of time and you’ll see this lad get better and better.”
Liverpool ended up defeating Porto 2-0.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Liverpool signed Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for a transfer fee of €38 million back in the summer of 2017.
The Englishman has had his injury problems during his time at Anfield. But, when Oxlade-Chamberlain has been fit to play for the Reds, he has performed reasonably well more times than not.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored 14 goals and registered 13 assists in 118 appearances for Liverpool. The 28-year-old has also helped Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title.
The aforementioned figures and achievements highlight that Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a decent signing for the Reds.
In terms of Owen's comments, we completely agree with him that the midfielder still has room for improvement. As we have already pointed out, Oxlade-Chamberlain is only 28 years of age, so his career is far from finished.
