"He isn’t going to play every week" - Pundit on Joe Gomez's Liverpool future

Pundit Paul Robinson has implied that Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez should consider departing Anfield this summer.

The Englishman was behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order last season.

With that being the case, Gomez only played 1,039 minutes of football for the Reds last campaign.

Therefore, Robinson has stated that the defender should considering switching clubs this summer.

“It all depends on how Gomez feels at the club,” he told Football Insider.

“He will be very aware of the opportunities or lack of opportunities he has going into next season. You only have one career.

“Joe Gomez will be frustrated by the amount of game time he had last season. It is up to him and the type of person he is to see if he can continue that. He might seek a move elsewhere.

“We have already seen huge upheaval at Liverpool this year with Sadio Mane going. If Gomez was to go, I think they would have to replace him.

“It will all come down to the player. Jurgen Klopp will certainly not be looking to move him on. He’s a great player to have in your squad. He isn’t going to play every week though.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We really do hope that Gomez remains at Liverpool. The reality is, he is only 25 years of age. Gomez's career is far from over.

Van Dijk and Matip are in their 30s. They won't be at Anfield forever. If Gomez sticks tough, he will get his chance to solidify his place in Liverpool's starting XI.

It has been reported that the defender is set to sign a new contract this summer, which is obviously great news.

Hopefully the club and Gomez can agree new terms sooner rather than later.
