"He didn't have his best game" - Jose Enrique critical of Red after Man United clash
Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique was critical of Mohamed Salah's performance against Manchester United at Anfield last night.
The winger scored two goals and registered one assist in the aforementioned Premier League fixture. Despite that being the case, Enrique believes that Salah did not have his best game.
The Spaniard wrote the following on his Instagram story: "I think he didn't have his best game in terms of performance. Very happy for him to be back scoring but in terms of performance I believe it (Man of the Match) should go to (Sadio) Mane or Thiago (Alcantara)."
Liverpool secured a 4-0 victory over Manchester United.
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Enrique is coming from. Salah played in moments rather than for a full 90 minutes against Manchester United.
But, the Egyptian international is a forward, so as long as he is damaging the scoreboard, we are happy with his output.
Salah has had a superb 2021-22 campaign. The 29-year-old has scored 30 goals and registered 12 assists in 42 appearances for Liverpool.
Salah has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.50. Hopefully the winger can continue his good form and propel the Reds towards the quadruple.
On another note, there is plenty of talk regarding Salah's future at the moment.
He is out of contract at the conclusion of next season. Salah is reportedly asking for more money than what the club are willing to pay him.
Hopefully the situation gets sorted sooner rather than later. As we have already pointed out, Salah is a world-class footballer.
It is not everyday you get to watch a player of his status. So, we would be gutted to see Salah depart the club. Only time will tell where his long-term future lies.
