"He could do a job" - Stephen Warnock on who Liverpool should sign
Pundit Stephen Warnock believes that Liverpool should make a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old in the past. Warnock would like to see Liverpool act on their reported interest in Tielemans this summer.
“There will be (midfield) targets, whether they are long-term targets that they might need to bring forward,” he told the Football Show on Sky Sports, as quoted by HITC.
“I don’t see them spending £100 million or so.
“I think it might be a loan. But then it’s very difficult to get loan deals of quality that will help you progress and win a Premier League title.
“The ones that stick out as a cheap-ish option is Tielemans at Leicester. Their fans won’t thank me for saying that, but he is in the final year of his contract. It seems as though he is wanting out and you think ‘well he could do a job at Liverpool’.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Tielemans would add some quality to Liverpool's midfield. The 25-year-old averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.90 across 32 Premier League appearances last season, which highlights that he is a quality player.
Because of Tielemans' age, he could play in Liverpool's midfield for a number of years. As Warnock pointed out, the Belgium international's contract does not expire until the summer of 2023.
So, Tielemans will cost Liverpool a transfer fee if they wish to sign him this transfer window. The midfielder possesses a current market value of £49.50 million.
Only time will tell if Liverpool are to make a move for Tielemans.
