Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the futures of Roberto Firmino and Nat Phillips.

The reporter revealed that both players have had the opportunity to leave Anfield this summer.

However, Romano further added that neither Firmino or Phillips will be sold before the transfer window closes.

"Both Roberto Firmino and Nat Phillips have had the opportunity to move to another club in recent weeks. But Liverpool refused because of the many injuries," he told Wett Freunde, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

"Some English clubs were interested in Roberto Firmino, but Liverpool didn't even want to negotiate. My feeling is that Liverpool will try to keep the current squad and then add a midfielder."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool are currently without the likes of Diogo Jota and Ibrahima Konate due to respective injuries. Also, Darwin Nunez is suspended for headbutting Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen.

So, we can see why the Reds are reluctant to sell Firmino and Phillips. They are both handy squad players.

Firmino scored two goals and registered three assists against Bournemouth at Anfield last weekend, which highlights that he can still contribute from time-to-time.

Phillips on the other hand is a bit more of a liability. The defender isn't the quickest, but, he is another body.

It will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp signs anymore players before the summer transfer window closes.

The German has admitted that he would like to acquire a midfielder. Only time will tell if he is to act on those words.
