Has there been a better attacking trio than Liverpool's front three?
Liverpool over recent seasons have become one of the best sides in the world and with the Carabao Cup already in the bag, the Reds are still challenging on three other fronts.
Talks of a historic quadruple are not misplaced and with a flurry of betting sites now offering markets on Liverpool achieving the feat it looks set to be an exciting end to the season for Liverpool fans all over the world.
With stars all over the pitch, Liverpool’s starting eleven is one of the most exciting in the world, but in recent years it’s been the combination of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane that have caught the eye.
The trio arrived over three consecutive seasons with Firmino the first to arrive at the club in 2015, Mane was the headline signing of 2016 and Salah completed the puzzle in 2017.
It has been the goals of these three great players that have helped fire Klopp's side to greatness both domestically and in Europe. The trio have formed a bond and chemistry on the pitch that we have rarely seen before. However, with the recent arrivals of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, we might be witnessing the beginning of the end of the famous trio.
Has there been a better trio of attackers in the last decade?
Since Salah’s arrival at the club in the summer of 2017, the trio has scored well over 250 goals, marking them out as one of the deadliest trios the Premier League has ever seen. But does anybody else come close to matching the achievements of these three over the last decade?
In Premier League terms the answer has to be no. To try and compare how great Liverpool’s famed front three have been we need to look further afield.
The combination of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar scored a staggering 363 goals in the three years they played together for Barcelona, the trios goals helped fire them to several domestic titles and helped Barcelona clinch the Champions League title in 2015.
Staying in La Liga the combination of Real Madrid forwards Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo scored well over 200 goals between them across the 2012 and 2013 seasons but their exploits fall well short of what Mane, Firmino and Salah have achieved.
Last season the combination of Kylian Mpabbe, Neymar and Moise Kean scored a total of 76 goals between them which helped them become the deadliest trio in the whole of Europe but this achievement still falls well short of the totals set by the Liverpool frontmen who scored 91 goals alone in the 2017/2018 season.
Even when factoring in what some of these great trios have done. The edge has to be given to the Liverpool frontmen as they have sustained a level of greatness that has been proven year after year. Liverpool play in a harder league than La Liga and Ligue 1 and regularly come up against great defences which make their goal-scoring feats even more remarkable.
Time may be running out for the trio and whether it remains intact next season is a question that will need answering. But whatever happens this summer the goal scoring exploits of all three will be remembered at Anfield for decades to come.
