Harvey Elliott talked about Tyler Morton after the Liverpool loanee put in an 'unbelievable' display for England Under 21s this week.

Liverpool players were front and centre of England Under 21s 3-0 win over Northern Ireland this week. Harvey Elliott bagged two fantastic goals to continue his fine form, while Tyler Morton shone brightly on his first start.

Morton actually scored the opener - his first competitive goal. He then provided a wonderful assist for Elliott's second, finding his teammate with a perfectly-timed through-ball. The link-up was exciting to see from a Liverpool perspective - two youngsters with a clear connection on the pitch.

Elliott was naturally asked about Morton after the game and he couldn't have been more thrilled for his mate.

“We’ve come through the Academy together, he’s one of my best mates,” said Elliott, per the Liverpool Echo.

“To be sharing a pitch with him, it’s unbelievable for him and for myself as well. When his goal struck the net, I was the happiest kid in the world. I’m so thrilled for him, I’m over the moon.

“He was unbelievable today and, for me, the best player on the pitch. He fully deserved that goal.

“[A Championship loan] is a pathway. You can go out and get these experiences in the Championship, like I did as well. It’s a great league, full of great teams. The experiences you get there are like no other and it’s a great way to learn.

“I’m just happy that he’s doing his thing on loan and expressing himself the way I know he can. Hopefully, we can share the pitch more often.”

Elliott knows very well that a solid loan in the Championship can be the making of a young player. Even if his own loan came at a much younger age.

Still, Morton is impressing for Hull City this season and now he's more than holding his own with the England U21s, too. It is genuinely a pathway to Liverpool's squad.

Jarell Quansah is a fine example of a young player who impressed in pre-season and got his first-team opportunity. Morton can achieve similar this summer - his form is certainly earning him that look-in over the summer.

And so the Morton-Elliott partnership might just be something we see long-term, if both have their way.
