"Grown into" - Scotland manager on Andy Robertson's leadership skills

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has lauded Andy Robertson's leadership skills.

The Liverpool left-back is the captain of his nation. Clarke believes that Robertson has grown into a solid leader.

The coach further added that Robertson deserves more credit for turning into the player and person he is today.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told the Daily Mail the following: “Being a captain and leader is something Andy has grown into. It's something which doesn't get mentioned as often as it should do. Captains are important in the dressing room. People you are looking to step up.”

We completely agree with Clarke. Robertson has developed into a strong leader. Liverpool signed the left-back from Hull City for a transfer fee of £8.10 million back in the summer of 2017.

Since then, Robertson has become a key cog in Jurgen Klopp's XI (223 appearances). The Scotland international has grown in confidence as a result.

With that being the case, Robertson's leadership skills have come to fruition. We see the 28-year-old demanding plenty out of his Liverpool teammates on a weekly basis.

Therefore, it does not surprise us that he is the captain of Scotland. To be fair, Klopp did predict that Robertson would develop into a leader back in 2018.

“Andy is a fantastic fella. He is a very smart and nice person. He can be a leader in the future, 100 per cent,” he said, as quoted by Liverpool Offside.

“He made big steps in the last one-and-a-half years since we worked together. That’s really cool. He has made big steps in the last four or five years since he started his career. So it’s a nice story.

“He is still young but he is a leader already and he will be even better in that in the future.”
