Gerrard's donation, Van den Berg update, Mac Allister RETURNS - Liverpool FC news recap
Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday, 3rd August 2024. Alexis Mac Allister is back with the Reds early.
Mac Allister returns
Alexis Mac Allister is back training with Liverpool - despite not being due back for a little while. The Argentina midfielder won the Copa America last month and wasn't expected to join back up with the Reds until after the USA tour.
But Mac Allister is now with the Reds, meeting Arne Slot for the first time. There's no news yet on whether he'll feature against Manchester United in the upcoming friendly but he is training with the team already.
With that, only a few players remain away. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are all expected back next week.
Gerrard donates to Southport cause
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has donated money to a GoFundMe page which has been set up to help the grieving families after the Southport attack.
Three children, Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine were killed in the tragic ordeal which happened on 29 July.
The stabbings happened during a Taylor Swift dance class which was taking place at the Hart Space on Hart Street in Southport.

Van den Berg could earn squad role
Arne Slot could finally hand one Liverpool player a squad place after a five-year wait. Jurgen Klopp never found room.
Sky Sports claim that Arne Slot is willing to keep Sepp van den Berg in his Liverpool squad for next season. This comes as interest in the Dutch defender ramps up.
PSV Eindhoven have been heavily linked with a move for Van den Berg, for one. Mainz, where he spent last season on loan, very openly want a return, too.
And things could kick into gear from Monday. Liverpool will return from their tour of the USA and are expected to begin talks with clubs.
But the asking price for Van den Berg has been a problem. Neither PSV nor Mainz can afford the £20m Liverpool want for the defender and if neither stump up the cash, he won't be leaving.
Slot's willingness to keep Van den Berg allows this stance. It could well be that for the first time since moving to Merseyside five years ago, the player earns himself a place in Liverpool's first-team squad.
