The German FA are 'willing to wait' for Jurgen Klopp as they prepare to convince the Liverpool boss to become the national team head coach after his sabbatical.

Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season back in January, much to the surprise of Reds supporters across the world.

The 56-year-old said his reason for stepping down at Anfield is that he was "running out of energy", insisting that he will take at least a year out of management and may even retire.

That was not the news that the DFB wanted to hear, with Germany having been incredibly eager to appoint the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz coach as the national team manager for some time.

However, according to FootballTransfers, the German FA are so keen on appointing Klopp that they are willing to accomodate his desire for a year-long sabbatical, and will still attempt to recruit the world-class coach in the future.

It's reported that Klopp is "desperate to coach the national team one day", with Germany hoping that the Liverpool manager's time out of the game will re-energise him.

Julian Nagelsmann is currently in charge of Die Mannschaft ahead of this summer's European Championship, which is being hosted by Germany.

However, the former Bayern Munich boss' contract expires after the tournament, with Germany perhaps reluctant to offer the young manager a fresh deal if they believe Klopp is available in the near future.

Therefore, they would need an interim or short-term boss to replace Nagelsmann should they not extend his deal, although the decision over the 36-year-old's future will likely be dependent on whether Klopp is willing to even consider coaching Germany.

If the DFB are able to convince Klopp to take over the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, then they will likely do everything in their power to facilitate his appointment.
