The president of the German FA has offered a major update on the future of Julian Nagelsmann, who continues to be linked as the potential successor to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Nagelsmann was appointed as Germany manager on a short-term contract last year, with the remit of leading his country through the 2024 Euros on home soil.

The former Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig manager has already been linked to a host of clubs for next season, with Liverpool touted as one such possibility.

While Xabi Alonso remains the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp this summer, Nagelsmann is among the other main contenders for the role alongside the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim.

The Athletic has reported that the highly rated coach "performs well according to the data" in Liverpool's managerial search.

Talks underway

German FA president Bernd Neuendorf has revealed that discussions have taken place with Nagelsmann about the possibility of extending his contract.

Neuendorf seems very keen to keep the former Bayern boss on, telling ZDF (via the Daily Mail): "It would be absolutely desirable from our side.

"We're a good team, we get on well, we're in intensive dialogue."

This comes after Nagelsmann's recent comments, where he failed to play down speculation over his future, admitting he would sign the first satisfactory contract offer that came his way.

"If I have a contract offer before the Euros that I'm satisfied with and that makes me feel comfortable, then the likelihood of me signing it before the Euros is high," he said.

"Currently, I don't have anything on the table. Therefore, I can't answer the question. The likelihood of something happening before the Euros is there, but as of now, there's also a chance that nothing will happen."
