Gary Neville says Jurgen Klopp had a 'harder job' than Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

Gary Neville has claimed that Jurgen Klopp had a 'harder job' than Pep Guardiola when they both joined their respective clubs.

Speaking ahead of the Manchester City vs Liverpool showdown on Sky Sports, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the former Valencia manager said that what Klopp has turned Liverpool into is 'some achievement'.

"The job that Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool is absolutely incredible. It's unbelievable," said Neville. "I think it's a harder job than what Pep Guardiola has done at Manchester City.

"For Jurgen Klopp to go to Liverpool in the position they were in - and get them competing with this Manchester City team - with the transfer budget he has had, is absolutely out of this world.

"With the budgets they have, it's some achievement."

Anfield Watch Verdict

There is no doubt that Klopp had a harder job than Guardiola. The German took over a mid-table side who were in desperate need of a major rebuild with limited funds.

Meanwhile, Pep joined the wealthiest club in the world with an unlimited budget who had been Premier League Champions two years prior to his appointment.

Guardiola is no doubt one of the best managers of our generation but as a man manager, he does not come close to the German.

Klopp's success at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and now Liverpool all prove that. The German has had to buy smart and develop players into world-beaters.

Every team that Pep has managed have had unlimited funds and were already the best, or one of the best, teams in the league. Failing at those clubs would have been harder than succeeding.

I strongly believe that the Spaniard wouldn't have had the same success that Klopp has had with Liverpool if the roles were reversed, but the German definitely would've had similar or even better results at Manchester City if he had taken them over in 2016.
