Gary Neville names the Liverpool player that he would line up with
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has revealed that he would have loved to have played with Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds signed the Dutchman from Southampton for a transfer fee of £76.19 million back in January 2018.
Van Dijk has made 184 appearances for Liverpool's first-team. The 31-year-old has won six major trophies and a Community Shield during his time at Anfield.
Back in 2019, Van Dijk was named runner-up for the Ballon d'Or. Therefore, we aren't surprised to hear that Neville is a big fan of the centre-back.
As quoted by HITC, he told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football the following: “From a defensive point of view, Van Dijk, from an attacking point of view a young English player, I always look at Phil Foden and think how have United not got him as a youngster?
"You look at him and think he’s the type of player who you’d think what a player he is, he’ll be around a long time as well so I’ll say Foden."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Van Dijk makes everyone around him look better. Therefore, it doesn't surprise us that Neville, who was a full-back, would have loved to have lined up alongside the centre-back.
At Anfield Watch, Van Dijk is one of our favourite players. He makes everything look so effortless and he glides across the football pitch.Van Dijk is contracted until the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign. The Anfield faithful will be able to sit back and watch Van Dijk for at least a few more years.
