Gary Neville makes Liverpool January transfer prediction

Gary Neville has predicted that Liverpool might have a "sneaky dabble" in the January transfer market as they continue their push for the Premier League title.

The Reds are not expected to make any additional signings in the January window given the significant business they did last summer, while Liverpool have also recalled several players early from loan spells.

Left-back Owen Beck has returned to Anfield from a loan spell with Dundee to cover for the injured Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson, one indicator that the Reds won't strengthen their defence this winter.

The likes of Rhys Williams and Fabio Carvalho have also been recalled early from unsuccessful loans, while Nat Phillips has returned to Merseyside after a six-month period at Celtic.

However, Liverpool haven't been averse to conducting transfer business in January since Jurgen Klopp's arrival. In fact, the Reds have made significant signings in the last two winter windows - Cody Gakpo last season and Luis Diaz the year before.

Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes that, contrary to early reports, Liverpool may indeed be active in the January transfer window.

“I was just talking in the press lounge and wondering whether Liverpool might just have a sneaky dabble in the transfer market in January," he told Sky Sports.

"They won’t announce it because they’re really clever and they won’t want other clubs to know they’re desperate, and they’ve been very clever in the transfer market over the last few years under Jurgen Klopp.

"I wonder whether they think adding something to their squad could give them a difference – as it’s [the Premier League title] up for grabs."

Liverpool do currently have a number of injuries to contend with, especially in defence, while both Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah could be missing for up to a month at the Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations respectively.

However, Liverpool supporters may not want to get their hopes up, with a number of journalists having suggested it will be a quiet month for the Reds.
